St. Joseph Shrine Parish at 8743 US-12, Brooklyn, MI 49230 US - Celebrating the Journey--The First 150 Years--1854-2004

Celebrating the Journey--The First 150 Years--1854-2004

St. Joseph Shrine was established in 1854, so 2004 marked our 150th anniversary!  We were a mission church for the first 100 years, so we are also celebrated 50 years as a parish!! Our beautiful historic stone church (the picture at right is of the original structure) is situated in the picturesque Irish Hills area of southern Michigan, sporting 52 lakes in a very small area! Our own parish is located on Iron Lake. We have a beautiful outdoor stations of the cross down by the lake at the church and an outdoor rosary at our Family Center (click on each at right for more information).  Please feel free to contact our staff, as we are here to serve you.  Also, check our calendar for dates and times of activities.  We hope to see you soon!

Come and view our beautiful outdoor Stations of the Cross!
Come and view our beautiful outdoor Stations of the Cross; a very picturesque setting on Iron Lake, behind our historical church.  Most of the original stations, built between 1932 and 1936, are still standing.  All of the orignal mosaic tiles still exist.  Efforts are being made to maintain what we have and to rebuild the few stations that needed to be replaced with timber framing for safety purposes.  Donations would be gratefuly accepted.

Going to Confession
Why do Catholics speak of "going to confession"? Aren't we supposed to confess our sins to God? Why do Catholics have to go to a priest to confess their sins? The answer is ever so brief: When one "goes" to confession one goes to Jesus Christ to confess one's sins. Sacraments (the Great Eastern ...
